Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently emphasized the importance of countries developing their own AI systems, advocating for what he termed “sovereign AI.” Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Huang highlighted the need for countries to have control over the production of their intelligence and the data it generates.
He stressed that sovereign AI allows countries to codify their culture, society’s intelligence, common sense, and history, asserting ownership over their data. Huang suggested that if he were leading a developing nation, he would prioritize codifying the language and data of the culture into a large language model.
The UAE’s AI minister, Omar Al Olama, echoed Huang’s sentiments, stating that the UAE is aggressively working on creating large language models and mobilizing computing resources to support this vision.
Nvidia, known for its GPU chips, has seen significant financial success due to increased demand. Recently surpassing Amazon and overtaking Alphabet to become America’s third most valuable public company, Nvidia is expected to report earnings soon amid high investor expectations. The company has consistently delivered better-than-expected results, driven by the surge in demand for its AI chips.
