To understand it better, you need to know that there are two concepts.
The selling concept: is that the company produces the product and then focuses its marketing on selling those products to the consumer. it could be applied to products or services.
The marketing concept: its focus is no longer just selling products to consumers. The main purpose of the marketing process is to find out what customers want and provide that to them. In other words, identifying and satisfying consumer needs to ensure the organization’s long-term profitability.
Remember that the core of the business is your customer, Long-term profitability for a company depends on finding out what the customer needs and then satisfying those needs, thereby providing that value to the customer. So if you think about it, the marketing concept should be is align with your plans and goals.
Oklahoma State University marketing professor Dr. Tom Brown describes it this way: “Companies survive by solving problems for customers. They don’t survive by building stuff or providing services. They survive by satisfying customers’ needs. They survive by selling solutions.”
In conclusion: there are two concepts that you need to know, the selling and marketing concepts. Both looking for sales but with different approaches. Don’t forget that the customer is the most important thing in business.
