Friend is a pendant that will talk to you via text, not voice, when you’re lonely or just any time you want conversation.
According to CEO Avi Schiffmann, the ‘friend’ necklace is meant to combat loneliness. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth and and texts you there when it has something to say. If you’re in need of a pep talk or just some company, you can press the walkie-talkie button on the device and pour your heart out. ‘Friend’ then sends a text in your phone’s companion app.
Friend is leveraging Anthropic Al’s Claude 3.5 model to offer a constant, supportive presence in the wearer’s life.
The startup, which reportedly raised $2.5 million, purchased the domain Friend.com for $1.8 million. The founder believes this was a wise investment, as it will reduce future marketing costs by providing an easy-to-find website. The device is available for preorder at $99.
