In this tutorial, I walk through how to set up the text classifier node in N8N, one of the most powerful AI tools for automating workflows. The text classifier allows you to automatically categorize text based on its contentโ€”perfect for routing customer support tickets, sorting emails, classifying product reviews, or organizing incoming messages by priority.

We start with the basics of text classification and explore how to set up categories, customize system prompts, and configure outputs. I demonstrate real-world use cases like routing customer support messages to technical support, billing questions, feature requests, or general inquiries. You’ll also learn how to allow multiple classes to be true and handle cases when there’s no clear match by either discarding items or creating an “”other”” branch for unmatched content.

For advanced users, I show how to integrate Hugging Face pre-trained models into N8N to improve classification accuracy for specific domains. Using a fine-tuned SMS spam detection model as an example, I explain how to import and configure Hugging Face models via HTTP requests for more precise results than standard large language models.

By the end of this video, you’ll know how to build intelligent text classification workflows in N8N, when to use the built-in text classifier versus custom fine-tuned models, and how to optimize your system prompts for better accuracy.
